The State of Digital Diplomacy 2016 – SODD has considered the paper “The Strategic Use of Digital and Public Diplomacy in Pursuit of National Objectives”, from the former diplomat Shaun Riordan, the second best in 2016.
SODD, the reputed research center in the analysis of digital diplomacy worldwide, has recognized the publication of the British as the second best publication of the year in the field of public diplomacy.
Riordan, Senior Visiting Fellow at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations “Clingendael” and expert in the “new diplomacy”, wrote the paper one year ago for the collection FOCIR Pensament and presented it at the 4th FOCIR breakfast held in April 2016.
The publication focuses on the development and strategic use of digital and public diplomacy in promoting national objectives as well as major changes in the sphere of international relations. The author, that defends the power of public diplomacy in politics and society, discusses the role of three key developments: the arrival of new international actors, the evolution of new Information Communication Technologies (ICT) and the emergence of a New International Security Agenda (NISA).
The FOCIR Pensament collection contains three volumes from expert authors in public diplomacy. With this type of publications, the Federation aims to promote a global discourse on international relations, stressing the aspect that promotes the participation of Catalonia in the creation of a global citizenship.
