The Federation of Internationally Recognized Catalan Organizations has signed the manifesto “For rights and freedoms” on rejection of the Supreme Court verdict in the case of the Catalan leaders’ trial. More than 450 organizations of Catalan civil society have supported the statement published on Monday October 14th. Among the signatories to the manifesto there are also several FOCIR member entities, such as the Catalan Association of Esperanto, the Catalan Association for Peace, the Excursionist Center of Catalonia, the Unesco Center of Catalonia – UNESCOCAT, the CIEMEN, the National Youth Council of Catalonia, Esplais Catalans (Esplac), FEICAT- Insertion Companies of Catalonia, the Joan Maragall Foundation Christianity and Culture, the puntCAT Foundation, the Intersindical-CSC, Justice and Peace of Catalonia and The Bureau of the Third Social Sector of Catalonia.
This manifesto denounces the serious consequences that the Supreme Court verdict has on civil and political rights such as the rights of manifestation, expression, free association and political dissent and the backward movement that it entails for the quality of our democracy. At the same time, an appeal is made to political parties and public institutions to find the way to end the judicialization of a political conflict. The manifesto “For rights and freedoms” also encourages citizens to participate in the mobilizations that can contribute to strengthening social coexistence from a solidly grounded vindication of democratic rights and freedoms.
For now, the manifesto is only available in Catalan and European Spanish.
