The contribution Catalonia makes to the world, despite not being a state in its own right, is both a right and a responsibility of the local associative movement. Many associations participate in such areas as culture, education, sport, human rights and sustainable development, working in conjunction with other organisations across the globe and establishing joint projects.
This international presence, featuring both organisations and individuals, is a positive measure that needs to be recognised, advanced and supported as it helps to raise awareness of Catalonia and its participation on the world stage.
Certain international organisations, despite the fact that they are non-governmental, require their full members to correspond to states; this discriminates against organisations operating in stateless nations.
The fact that Catalonia is a stateless nation means that a great deal of Catalan organisations have difficulty being recognised as full members in their corresponding international sectors. Despite this, however, several Catalan organisations have managed to make their voices heard and participate actively in international organisations.
