Ressenya: Already in the 20th century foreign ministries and the diplomatic corps began to lose their monopoly on political contacts across national boundaries. The development toward a “hybrid diplomatic arena” with a variety of potential diplomatic agents beyond the traditional ones will in all likelihood continue and accelerate in the 21st century. New actors can be identified along several dimensions.
